Charlestown Harbour

Charlestown Harbour

Perched on the south coast near St Austell, Charlestown is one of Cornwall’s most iconic and best-preserved harbour villages. Famous for its fleet of tall ships and atmospheric Georgian harbour, it has become a favourite filming location for period dramas, including the BBC’s Poldark. Walking through the harbour is like stepping back in time, with cobbled streets, historic warehouses, and the sound of gulls echoing off the cliffs. Despite its timeless feel, Charlestown remains a working port, where traditional sailing vessels sit alongside small fishing boats.

The village offers more than just history – with independent cafés, galleries, and seaside pubs, it’s the perfect spot to relax with harbour views or take a stroll along the rugged coastline. From here, the South West Coast Path offers scenic walks east towards Carlyon Bay or west to Porthpean, both showcasing dramatic Cornish seascapes.
