Capturing Change from Above
At HD Drone Photography, we specialise in more than just stunning visuals - we document progress, preserve history, and tell powerful stories through the lens of time. One of our most rewarding long-term projects is the annual drone shoot for Mr. and Mrs. Richards, at The Granary in Cornwall.
From Derelict Mill to Dream Home
The Granary’s journey began in May 2018, when this once-abandoned agricultural watermill received planning permission to be reborn as a beautiful family home. In 2020 it was resold and our inaugural flight over the property in April 2022 captured the initial stages of this ambitious transformation. Since then, our annual drone shoots have documented every milestone, with the most recent flight in May 2025 unveiling how far the dream has evolved.
The Next Chapter of Transformation
In September 2023, the Richards family’s vision expanded. Their forward-thinking update included plans for a second-floor annex above the garage. This self-contained, one-bedroom unit was designed for family members, to enjoy, in the future. With sustainability in mind, the annex matches the original garage footprint, avoiding demolition or waste.
The family then wish to continue with the rebuild of the main mill structure and HD Drone photography will be in place to document it.
Blending Design with Heritage
True to the Richards family’s vision, the annex will be constructed using high-quality, durable materials that honours the essence of Cornish architecture and the history of the site. Covered in reclaimed and authentic Cornish stone, its finish reflects the design of the main house, creating a seamless aesthetic that integrates effortlessly into the landscape. From the air, the annex’s harmonious design ensures the rural charm of area remains intact while enhancing the home’s character. One instance of this is the stabilisation of the mill and the old (now dried up) mill race, which had to be reinstated.
